The Wildlife

Ulva is home to nesting pairs of White-tailed Sea Eagles, which can be commonly seen on the wing along the coast of Ulva. Also home to Golden Eagles, Hen Harriers, otters, seals and the rare Scotch Burnet Moth that is only found on a few west coast islands in Scotland.

The History

Ulva has a wealth of evidence of people living on the island, whether it be the numerous old townships with their ruin blackhouses as evidence for the clearances in the 19th century, or the Mesolithic finds from the Livingstone Cave on Ulva's southern shore, to the Standing Stones.

The Beauty

Ulva is an island of contrasts, from the rugged remote beauty of Ulva southern shore around the old ruined townships such as Ormaig, to the surprising large stands of mature broad leafed woodland that covers Ulva's eastern shore.

Exploring this woodland, provides a very different feel to the vast open spaces of the west coast of Ulva.

The Stunning Coast

The stunning coast of Ulva is unrivaled. With its geology that has created hidden coves, beaches and lagoons. A breath-taking beauty that is home to seals, dolphins, whales and otters and long with a myriad of species of sea birds, not forgetting the icon Sea Eagle. All to be explored by kayak or boat.

Please be aware that the seas off Ulva can be a dangerous environment and conditions can become hazardous very quickly.  There are only a few places to seek shelter and therefore, anyone seeking to kayak or boat around Ulva should be experienced, be aware of the current conditions and should make someone aware of their intended itinerary and schedule.
